The Pilates program approach

Pilates-based exercise uses a series of controlled, progressive movements to help develop flexibility and muscle tone, and improve posture. Gentle and safe, yet challenging, these low-impact exercises help build abdominal and back extensor muscles, which stabilize the spine and pelvis, while other muscle groups are used in proper sequential order.

Movement sequences on Pilates apparatus are progressed by decreasing the assistance and the base of support while making sure the quality of movement does not suffer. The assistance/resistance provided by the apparatus springs support correct usage of core muscles for proper body mechanics in movement patterns.
